🇺🇸 Frank Zane
Reign: 1977–1979
Biography
American bodybuilder who won three consecutive Mr. Olympia titles (1977-1979), renowned for his aesthetic, proportioned physique rather than sheer mass.
Training approach
Zane won three Olympias with the lightest physique of his era, and his method followed from that: proportion and symmetry first, mass second. He worked with moderate loads that let him hold perfect form through a full range of motion — typically three to four sets of eight to fifteen reps — and deliberately avoided maximal weights because of the injury risk. Accounts say Joe Weider pushed him to train heavier before the 1977 Olympia.
